Janet
Abbott Fast, Editor, Publisher
Publishing Chesapeake Style is a fourth career for Janet. In her
earlier lives she was a wife and mother, sold cosmetics and later became
a regional sales manager for a group health insurance company in Northern
Illinois. She also was a boater on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers
for 25 years, and, for 25 years, taught Red Cross Swimming courses and
Adapted Aquatics courses in the Midwest. Janet grew up in Richmond and,
after graduating from James Madison University, moved to Wisconsin and
Illinois with her husband. There they raised a son and a daughter. She
has three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Janet came back to Virginia
to a high school class reunion in 1991 and within two years returned to
Virginia. Before moving she had designed and built a house “I was going
to live in it until I died.” She simply built it again in the Northern
Neck. She jokes that the “next time the furniture leaves that home will
be when my ashes are spread over the marsh.” She shares her home with several
German Wirehaired Pointers, rescued cats, and a variety of parrots. She
breeds and shows German Wirehaired Pointers, spends too little time in
her garden and enjoys reading, when time permits |
