Special Section~Isabel 2003
Hurricane Isabel
By Nancy W. Vickers

Living on the water is great when things are calm, but
Now it looks like someone must have dropped a bomb.
My arms are tired of raking, my eyes are weary too
From seeing all the clean-up jobs our friends are going through.

Isabel came roaring through with high tides up the Bay.
Like a million match sticks, pier boards were ripped away,
The damage was incredible, and it broke my heart to see
Our neighbor’s home was pinned beneath a giant fallen tree.

The tidal surge forced walls down, and it was really hard
To understand how boulders could float up in those yards.
Though property was torn apart by Isabel’s strong winds,
The folks down in the Northern Neck are building once again.

It’s tough to face the workload as repair bills start to mount,
But families were protected, and that’s all that really counts.
