We’re Back!
Chesapeake
Style began in print in 1998, through early 2002. At that
time we became an Online Only publication. And our faithful readers
found us and continued to read.
Recently a friend urged me to bring Chesapeake
Style back in print. After discussing the idea with several
good friends, who promised to help, we’re back!
Bringing back Style
has been an interesting and humbling experience. Never in my wildest
dreams did I imagine that folks would keep back issues in their homes,
in their guest rooms for visitors to read. Countless folks have shared
this with me in these past few weeks. I always said it wasn’t
meant for “the bottom of the birdcage” but never thought
people would keep it around for more than five years!
Readers will find new ideas and fresh writers,
as well as our faithful writers who have stayed with us since we began
in 1998. One of the best ideas to come with our new look are our Teen
Style pages, where local high school students share their
writings, art and photography. Cathy Vandeloecht
is responsible for the idea and follow up with the schools and students.
We are grateful to our advertisers who support this effort of our
youth as well. Watch for these pages to expand into the private schools
and into other counties.
Also different this time, is our Team. We have
more help with ad sales, with our fearless leader and new best friend,
Victoria Shiflet Kress, who also finds
time to write. With the enthusiasm, effort and positive results from
our ad sales people we are able to publish this issue with many colorful
pages!
We thank our Team, including writers, ad
sales folks, and friends who help get Chesapeake Style out to more
places than those businesses we can list on page three.
Like many people all over Virginia, this country
and the world, we are saddened by the tragedy at Virginia Tech. It
is not a good feeling to be affiliated with a record setting school
massacre. Like many of you, I have close friends who are graduates
of Tech. There are no words to adequately express our deepest sympathy
to all who suffer from the ripple effect of events which unfolded
on April 16, 2007.
We look forward to your responses, suggestions
and ideas. Our in print calendar begins on this page. You will find
our calendar online as well by clicking Celebrations
Calendar on the menu. The following pages embrace our
mission statement, to celebrate the Chesapeake Bay Region and its
people, past, present and future.
Please note several of our advertisers have included
coupons. We hope you will clip them, use them and be glad you did!
See you again on the fourth Wednesday of next month,
Lord willing and the creeks don’t rise!
