Fast Times on the Rivers ~ Life can be too busy
By Janet Abbott Fast

If you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you will keep on getting what you’ve always gotten. The first time I heard this adage was about 15 years ago, when I became single again. It applies to many parts of our lives: lifestyle, food, alcohol, relationships, gambling, our reactions to others.

The list goes on. When I first moved back to Virginia I looked forward to not having to be on the go all the time. When I left Illinois my life was full—too full. I was busy—too busy. I wanted to stop and smell the flowers. A friend had committed suicide, and it was a wakeup call, I thought, for me. Time to move on, to find peace and solitude and to write.

Write, edit, publish, photograph, are among the things I now do. My life is as busy or busier than it was before I moved back to Virginia. I must like it that way or I would change it. I would change what I keep on doing, so that I would not keep on getting what I always got—busier.

At a recent boat show we were delighted to discover how well known and far reaching Chesapeake Style has become. For four days, the people came by our booth and picked up magazines—about 2,500 to 3,000 magazines.

As a result of the experience I am reminded how very lucky I am to be surrounded by folks like my writers and ad sales people. Everyone helps to keep us going. They write, they sell ads, and they distribute the magazine. Their loyalty is priceless. I owe all of them a big thank you. The next time you see one of them, tell them thanks, again, for me!

Chesapeake Style is an award winning magazine, and we have been for a while—a piva (Printing Industries of Virginia) award winning publication. Now we can add another feather to our cap. Last year we joined the Virginia Press Association (VPA) and this year entered the editorial contest.

While I am not at liberty to divulge the winner, we do have a winner. Awards will be given out at the VPA conference in March. Watch our next issue for more information.

Now we’re also a VPA award winning publication!
