Enjoy the October outdoors
By Chelly & Steve Scala

Southern Maryland’s Outdoor Women are inviting others to join them in a fun and experience filled weekend on October 27-28. The National Wild Turkey Federation Southern Maryland Chapter, “Boss Hens” are looking forward to seeing those with all levels of outdoors interest at their event. Included will be map and compass skills, skeet shooting, archery, bird watching, outdoor photography, camping and outdoor cooking. An optional muzzle loader (antlerless) deer hunt on Saturday October 27 is also offered. The location for the two day event will be on 200 plus acres of wildlife and agricultural Southern Maryland habitat which includes tidal river shoreline. The event is free of charge. To register or obtain more information, call Lynne Saunders at 301)-274-0004 or Susan Boarman at(301-259-2830.

An annual event which welcomes all to attend is Farnham Hunt Club’s “LET’S TALK SAFE HUNTING”. On Saturday, October 20 at 10 a.m. the event begins at the hunt club home on Route 612 (Oakland Road) in Richmond County. This is a gathering which provides for an exchange of information, ideas and concerns that benefit upcoming hunting seasons. Of particular importance at the Farnham Hunt Club event is the emphasis on maintaining positive landowner-hunter relationships. Several guest speakers, including Virginia State Game Wardens, will be in attendance to provide information and answer questions. Lunch will be available. For directions to Farnham Hunt Club and additional information, call 804--333-4190.

Our prayers go out to those who perished or were injured on September 11, 2001. These prayers and sympathies are extended as well, to their loved ones. The bravery and determination of the rescue, law enforcement and fire fighting personnel who responded to the terrorist attacks with selfless heroism will be remembered with honor and admiration by many generations. History owes them a special chapter. We wish all who are defending this country, “God Speed”, and a safe return. The United States is a mighty nation with compassion and good will for all. We are a free country which supports those same rights to any who would embrace it within their borders. Much will be asked of this nation, especially from those who defend it.

September 11, 2001 has been answered with a collective spiritual strength which this country has mustered before. Our faith guarantees that good prevails over evil. God Bless the United States, its people, our armed forces and the future of freedom throughout the world which they defend.
