Career Aspirations
By E.S. von Gehren

"So what will you be when you've grown up young lad?",
he said to the dirty faced fry.

"A garbage man slinging the cans with one hand.",
 was the lad’s immediate reply.

"But where's your ambition, you surely must know
in garbage you'll get no respect."

"Oh sir," the lad said, "I care not at all,
if I'm happy with what I elect."

"A man of your learning may not understand,
and see but the dirt without pleasure,

But I have a spirit that sees things anew,
for to me it’s not garbage but treasure."
