The Christmas Tree
By E. S. von Gehren

Beneath the drying Christmas pine,
Its fallen needles pile.
Its barren branches sparse of life,
Its been here but a while.

For once again the purchase of
The yearly Christmas tree,
Has stirred contempt from everyone,
All criticizing me.

But try my best to find a tree
That lasts the holiday,
I always pick a "Charlie Brown"
That's anything but gay.

Forget its bare branch scrawniness,
Its hanging lifeless form,
Bedeck it in our seasons joy,
Proclaiming Christ is born.
