Whitney Storybook: Life on the South Dakota Prairie
is a collection of true family stories dating back nearly 100 years. During the blizzard of 1913, Nancy’s Granddad Mark Whitney and three friends walked two miles in the dark in chest-deep snow to rescue their neighbors. He spotted the top of the newly-installed telephone pole and followed its wires to the house which lay buried in the huge snowdrifts. The entire family was on the floor dying. That nighttime rescue was a miracle! After reading about
the hardships faced by these brave homesteaders back in Pierre,

Many

for the last four years. She composes personal poetry for special
