Happy Mothers’ Day!
By Nancy W. Vickers

My Mom, Jeannette F. Whitney, is 85 years old and lives in a nursing home in Columbia, Maryland. A stroke three years ago left her paralyzed and unable to swallow or speak. This poem is dedicated to all care givers everywhere. May God bless you in your challenge with great patience, understanding and love.

I hold her gentle hand in mine
The hand I love to clutch.
Her skin is soft as satin
And I marvel at her touch.
The moment that she sees me
I love to watch her smile.
She loves our time together
When we can talk a while.

Though paralyzed and challenged
She faces every day
Spreading joy and sunshine
To friends along the way.

Her faith has never wavered.
She knows she is never alone.
We’ll treasure our moments together
Until the Lord calls her home.
