Song of the Seas
By Mary-Alice Wightman

In the ocean breeze,
Silver caps glisten
Across rolling waves,
And if you listen,
You may hear the song
Of the ancient seas,
The sunlight dancing,
In the ocean breeze.

Secret song below
From the deep dark sea--
An oyster-to-be,
From a tiny seed
An oyster will grow,
And grow a rough shell,
Secret song below.

Far below the surf,
The oyster will dwell
Where a grain of sand
Invades the new shell.
Like irritations
We find on our earth,
The sand irritates,
Far below the surf.

With endurance strong,
The oyster creates,
From the sand, a pearl,
A jewel earth awaits.
Secrets of the sea,
Like an ancient song--
Pearls of life are made
With endurance strong.
