Who is Your Neighbor? (After
Jesus)
By Katherine Ward 10th Grade

A professor was speaking to his class
at a Christian University when a student, wanting to justify himself
called out: “And who, professor, is my neighbor?”
The professor answered him with a parable saying:
“A Jew was walking through a German community during the time
of the Holocaust. Some Germans walked up to him and severely beat
him, leaving him for dead. After they left, a German veteran came
along, but he just looked at the Jew and stepped over him to continue
on his way. Some time later, a German citizen bearing a Swastika came
along. Seeing the Jew, he spit on him and continued on his way. The
next day, a German soldier walked up to him. After seeing the Jew’s
condition, he instantly pitied him. He bandaged the Jew’s wounds
and carried him on his horse to a hospital. The German paid for all
the hospital fees and told the nurse if the price went over, then
he would come back and pay the rest.”
After a brief pause, the professor asked the student: “Now,
which man in the story was the neighbor to the Jew? Of course, the
one that showed mercy on him. Now, go and do the same.”
