The Meaning of Christmas By Florence Jenkins Muse A young boy of ten walked into town each day with his shoeshine kit and worked shining the local businessmen's shoes throughout the day. In late afternoon, he went into the grocery store, bought groceries, and headed out of town. One day, a curious businessman decided to follow the lad to see where he went. The young boy walked into the woodlands and finally came to an old shack. Sitting on the front porch of the shack was an old, feeble man with whom the boy shared his food. The businessman walked up on the front porch and asked the boy if this was his grandfather.
"No sir, replied the lad, this is Old Jack, my friend, and I care for him."
The young boy replied, "Life ain't nothing without someone to share it with." Many of us who live alone can identify with this young boy. However, my mind goes back and remembers the meaning of the First Christmas. God looked down and wanted to share Himself with the people of the world so He sent down His Son to show the people who He was, to let them know how much He loved them, and let them know they would never be alone again. Christmas is a time when we should be with families: When we should express our love to others as God expressed His to us; and when we can feel the most blessings to be a member of the Family of God. Look to a little child to lead you if you have lost your way and perhaps you will discover there is really a short distance from the Manger to your fireplace. © 2001 Florence Jenkins Muse All Rights Reserved |
